I have been asking myself recently, “why did I stop writing humor essays and comics?” The answer was becuase I got a real job and didn’t think I was good enough to keep going. I miss it though, it brought me so much joy and fun in my life and I want that again.
That’s why I am very excited to dive back into the world of humor writing and comics. I am starting out my relearning journey with some books and notes from classes I have taken in the past.
Books I will be re-reading:
Creativity: A Short and Cheerful Guide by John Cleese
How to Write Funny: Your Serious Step-by-step Blueprint for Creating Incrediby, Irresistibly, Successfully Hilarious Writing by Scott Dikkers
Truth in Comedy: The Manual of Improvisation by Charna Halpern, Del Close, and Kim Johnson
The Comic Toolbox: How to be Funny Even If You're Not by John Vorhaus
Comics and Sequential Art by Will Eisner
Making Comics by Scott McCloud
Please leave a comment if you have any class, book, podcast, etc. recommendations!
I can’t wait to begin this writing and comic journey into 2025!
